India is the world’s largest democracy and a global center of technology and finance. But there is a huge gap between the wealth and those living in poverty. 12% of children are forced to work instead of going to school – some of them in hazardous environments like coal mines, factories and selling food on the streets. What’s worse, India has the highest rate of child mortality, a shocking 48 out of 1000 of children die before they turn five. Although there is more wealth in India than ever before, it hasn’t fully translated into healthcare, education or better nutrition for the poor.Every child has the right to a safe and secure childhood, but for many these rights are denied. Born into extreme poverty and violence, they have no-one to protect them.
Human Heritage Charitable Trust believes that no child should face these challenges alone.
We believe every child has potential and that there is hope in even the most desperate situation. There are strengths within children, their families, friendships and communities. Policies and systems can be changed, to protect children and enable them to thrive. Every child is different and each will find a unique path towards a better future. By strengthening the net of support around the child we aim to ensure that no child makes this journey alone.
